Group Discussion > Any advise on black jade piece?
As with most carvings the stone quality and the carving quality are two very important factores. if the piece is carved well from Wyoming or old Cowell black it has more value than a well carved piece of the present day Cowell or some of the Concow from California. The point being you must do the work of having the piece evaluated by a professional with credentials, everything else is just opinion. Cheers, Mike

Hi All
I acquired a very huge piece many years, a Arhat/Lohan on a dragon. It's about 26" tall by 18" wide by 12" death, and it weight should be around 100kg and it needs 3 men to carry. It is black in sight but dark green in the sunlight, lustre surface and carving is superb. The last collector told me it's black jade and from Qing dynasty period. I do not know the current value but I guess jade value has appreciate of late.
Any serious collector from this community wish to see the photo, please email me at rtbs168@gmaail.com
Regards!

Hi, Do you have any photo of your piece? How big is it? Mine looks black but dark green if you shine it with a touchlight.

You folks may already be well aware of this, but it is easy to turn many green varieties of nephrite black by heat treatment...

My father acquired a few years ago a piece which represents a monk holding a baby. It's about 40cm tall by about 16 cm wide, and it weighs around 6.5kg. It is black with very a few fine translucent green veins.
He has been told it's black jade, and someone just came to the house yesterday and offered him a large sum of money to take it right then. This made my dad suspicious as no one generally is that happy to part from their money that quickly. Is the piece worth a lot more?
We have no expertise in this area, so any advise from this community would be greatly appreciated.
