Group Discussion > cheap on ebay

i did send a email on the Question form but then though i might get a response here also, so here it is:

I don't know exactly who i'm writing here, but i have a question. Recently i've bougth some small items on Ebay from China. they are very cheap and since i don't have a lot of money it's been kind of fun. I practice chinese calligraphy so i like these small items around to inspire me and they can also serve as paperweigths...I bougth one exactly like this one: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&_trksid=p4340.l2557&item=251008423918&nma=true&rt=nc&si=x2c0xG3d8X6s0BF%252FjptUK%252FYbhTQ%253D&sspagename=STRK%3AMEDWX%3AIT&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc - but i only payed 4.50 usD for mine. But i've started to wonder.....how can the things be so cheap. is it possible to mold something into resempling jade? are they using inferior stone or are there just so many of them that the prize is market value? i tend to bid on free shipping items which means i get the stuff from china practically for free.
I also bougth this http://thumbs2.ebaystatic.com/pict/1607208103494040_1.jpg for 3.75 US which is clearly not a real piece so something is off. As long as the prices are this low it's no big deal offc. but i just wonder. can you point me in any direction towards a better understanding of this market. please. in any case i wish you a good day Hoping to have a word from you real soon.

Cheap on ebay now is not what it was a few years ago. Demand has increased and availability has decreased. Prices of jade have increased along with the price of gold recently. However, as the Chinese say: "gold is valuable, but jade is priceless". So what is cheap is more a matter of what you can afford to pay and how much you're willing to pay to aquire a particular item.
