Hey all! I just got back from a Big Sur Jade-hunting weekend (my second ever, yeah, I'm a newbie) and had a question for anyone of you old hands at the game. I found a piece at Jade Cove that I'm fairly sure is jade, but it's not like any I have found anywhere previously (This was my second weekend in Big Sur but I've been hunting in Humboldt/Trinity for a while now). It's a deep black/grey in color with what I can best describe as a silvery shimmer when it's moved around under light. It's BARELY translucent in one corner when lit from underneath, otherwise it appears opaque. It's structure and outer appearance is a dead ringer and it passes the "scratch" test, it's just a color I'm not used to seeing, I believe. Any thoughts/input? Much appreciation and thanks for all you do, I look forward to many more Big Sur trips.
Without actually seeing it no one can offer a veritable identification of your stone. You might spend some time at the Jade Festival in Big Sur in about three weeks. Someone there may recognize your stone. The Jade Festival is something you will not want to miss.
